How to Remove Resin Drips from Resin Art

Final Resin Reveal + How I Removed the Resin Drips

What Is Resin Dripping and Why Does It Happen?

When working with epoxy resin, the resin drips along the edges of your piece are very common. As resin levels itself, excess resin can flow over the sides of your canvas, panel, or mold and begin to collect underneath. Once it starts curing, those drips harden into uneven bumps or sharp edges on the back of the artwork.

While this is a normal part of working with resin, removing resin drips after curing helps give your finished piece a cleaner, more professional look. In this video, you’ll see the final reveal of the artwork along with a simple technique for removing those hardened drips safely.

Common Causes of Resin Drips

Resin drips happen naturally, but a few factors can make them more noticeable or harder to remove.

Some common causes include:

  • Applying too much resin to the surface
  • Not taping or sealing the edges before pouring
  • Allowing resin to run freely off the sides of the artwork
  • Working on a surface that isn’t completely level
  • Leaving cured drips on the underside of the piece between layers
