Golden Swirls & Irish Whirls | An Artist Spotlight Collaboration

Golden Swirls & Irish Twirls | An Artist Spotlight Collaboration

It’s been exciting to learn about the amazing artists in our community through The Artist Spotlight Program, and we’re thrilled to bring you more inspiration by celebrating individuals in the Paint Pour Academy (PPA) community. This is our monthly Artist Spotlight Collaboration, where we challenge the artists with an Inspired theme and let them pour! Our goal is to inspire you and your art through these themed challenges and share the wealth of knowledge, skill, and artist stylings of our spotlight artists.

We’re keeping it simple and allowing the participating artists full creative control with a theme-featured challenge. Here’s what we asked them to do:

Celebrate the magic of St. Patrick’s Day with Golden Swirls & Irish Whirls, a fluid art collaboration inspired by the luck and beauty of Ireland! Let your creativity flow like a Celtic river, embracing the rich greens of the rolling hills, shimmering gold of hidden treasures, and the mystical charm of swirling patterns. Whether you’re inspired by the whimsy of shamrocks, the elegance of Celtic knots, or the glimmer of a rainbow’s end, this theme invites you to explore the fluid movement of color and luck.

Color Suggestions:
🍀 Emerald Green – The heart of Ireland, symbolizing growth, prosperity, and luck
🌿 Jade & Olive Green – For depth and a natural, earthy touch
✨ Metallic Gold – Representing fortune, warmth, and the legendary pot of gold
🌫 Soft Whites & Creams – Adding contrast, like clouds above a misty Irish countryside
🌈 Pops of Rainbow Colors (optional) – For a playful touch of magic and wonder

And here’s what they came up with:

About the Project

What inspired the techniques used in your piece?
I have always loved all things that sparkle. After pioneering how to get Micas on Glass it just wasn’t enough for me – I wanted more ! That’s when I started experimenting with Glitter.

What challenges did you have completing this piece?
Formulating glitter into paint is challenging enough to use effectively on canvas but formulating it for Glass is a whole other level of difficulty. It’s a very delicate balance between coverage & viscosity.

Do you have a favorite part or element in this artwork?
Sparkle !!! Lots & lots of beautiful sparkle & texture. The Glass piece I had chosen for this particular project was the perfect compliment to the process.

Are there any specific tools or materials that you found particularly helpful in this project?
There was a huge learning curve on the types of glitter available & experimenting what worked best when applying to Glass. The type of glitter used was very important & lent to the success of this amazing outcome.

Do you have any tips to share with the readers?
When working with Glass, make sure you have an idea of what you would like to achieve prior and which techniques you are planning on using. All of that must be taken into consideration when choosing a Glass piece to work with. No two pieces are the same so every pour is almost like pouring for the first time all over again !

About the Project

What inspired the techniques used in your piece?
This piece needed to be quick and easy since I was behind getting this colaboration done. I had come down with Noravirus and had been very sick mid month, and was unable to paint for about 10 days. So the inspiration was simplicity!

What challenges did you have completing this piece?
Honestly… just finding the energy to paint after being so sick. I am very comfortable with Blooming, so no issues once I began to paint.

Do you have a favorite part or element in this artwork?
I love the gold & golden yellow throughout the painting, but adore the Limeade circled cells in the middle.

Are there any specific tools or materials that you found particularly helpful in this project?
I can’t live without my blowdryer, it makes blooming so much easier for me.

Do you have any tips to share with the readers?
Dont procrastinate when you want to participate in something, cause you never know what might derail you for a period of time, unexpectedly!

About the Project

What inspired the techniques used in your piece?
When thinking about St Patrick’s day, rainbows, gold and the color green come to mind. This is project was a lot of trial and error but eventually, this is where the creativity brought me.
The colors also remind me of Skittles.. which remind me of rainbows..

What challenges did you have completing this piece?
My original idea involved puddle pours and a marble and a rainbow swipe and it just did not go as planned. I must have tried at least 10 times. This was plan B and it was better than I imagined.

Do you have a favorite part or element in this artwork?
I just love the color gradient. How I kept the rainbow pattern from top to bottom through the flowers and across the rainbow. I also love how the gold just brought so much shine and pops in all the right places.

Are there any specific tools or materials that you found particularly helpful in this project?
My palette knife and a balloon 🙂

Do you have any tips to share with the readers?
If your first idea doesn’t work, it’s on to move on to plan B. Sometimes, it turns out better than the original!

About the Project

What inspired the techniques used in your piece?
I wanted to try something different with this project. I have been learning about texture art and I thought it would be fun to paint pour over a shamrock.

What challenges did you have completing this piece?
I think my real challenge was “doing” it. I know how all the parts work but this had a little twist with using Joint Compound. I was so excited to get it done, I was almost impatient with myself at times.

Do you have a favorite part or element in this artwork?
I loved every part! Lots of new ideas on each technique kept popping in my head as I was working, lol.

Are there any specific tools or materials that you found particularly helpful in this project?
My spinner was such a life saver! I was able to turn my wood circle as I worked which was so helpful without disturbing the design I was working on.

Do you have any tips to share with the readers?
Have fun with the process and don’t be afraid to try something new!
