Garden Whispers: A dance of petals and paint | An Artist Spotlight Collaboration

It’s been exciting to learn about the amazing artists in our community through The Artist Spotlight Program, and we’re thrilled to bring you more inspiration by celebrating individuals in the Paint Pour Academy (PPA) community. This is our monthly Artist Spotlight Collaboration, where we challenge the artists with an Inspired theme and let them pour! Our goal is to inspire you and your art through these themed challenges and share the wealth of knowledge, skill, and artist stylings of our spotlight artists.

We’re keeping it simple and allowing the participating artists full creative control with a theme-featured challenge. Here’s what we asked them to do:

Step into a world where colors bloom and creativity flows like a gentle spring breeze. “Garden Whispers” is a fluid art collaboration inspired by the delicate beauty of flowers in motion. Just like petals dancing in the wind, let your paints swirl, blend, and bloom across the canvas, capturing the soft elegance and vibrant energy of nature. Whether you’re drawn to lush floral gardens, wild meadows, or dreamy watercolor-like blossoms, this theme invites you to embrace the organic movement of fluid art and create pieces that feel alive with nature’s whispers.

Color Palette Suggestions:

🌸 Soft Pastels – Blush pinks, lavender, peach, and baby blue for a dreamy, delicate floral touch
🌿 Earthy Greens – Sage, olive, or deep forest green to represent lush leaves and stems
🌻 Bright Floral Hues – Sunflower yellow, coral, fuchsia, or violet for bold and lively blossoms
🌾 Warm Neutrals – Cream, sand, and light brown to balance the palette and add natural softness
✨ Metallic Accents – Gold, copper, or pearl white to add a shimmer of elegance, like morning dew on petals

Technique Suggestions for “Garden Whispers”

To capture the soft, organic movement of flowers and nature, here are some fluid art techniques that would work beautifully:

  1. Dutch Pour – Use a blow dryer or airflow to push colors across the canvas, creating soft, wispy petals and natural floral shapes. Perfect for delicate, windblown flower effects.
  2. Swipe Technique – Drag a palette knife or paper towel through your colors to create layered, flowing petals or abstract floral compositions.
  3. Bloom Technique (SheleeArt Style) – Achieve cellular, blooming effects that resemble real petals bursting into life, using a pillow paint and cell activator.
  4. String Pull – Dip a string or chain into paint, then pull it across the canvas to form beautiful flower-like shapes.
  5. Ring Pour / Tree Ring Pour – Layer colors in a cup and pour in a circular motion to create mesmerizing, layered floral effects.
  6. Ghost Pour / Pearl Pour – Achieve soft, ethereal blooms with delicate color blending and natural cell formations.
  7. Balloon Smash – Press a small balloon onto the paint to create petal-like shapes and abstract floral designs.

Remember, all colors and techniques listed above are optional. Let’s inspire each other to spread love and celebrate the beauty of connection through our art. Share your finished pieces to spark joy and creativity within the community!

About the Project

What inspired the techniques used in your piece?
I’ve been experimenting with bubble wrap dips lately, and trying to get depth and motion by layering my paints accordingly

What challenges did you have completing this piece?
Making sure I had the right amount of paint – not too much and not too little – considering the number of colors I wanted to incorporate

Do you have a favorite part or element in this artwork?
The motion I captured in the sky, and the impressionistic element to the flowers

Are there any specific tools or materials that you found particularly helpful in this project?
Definitely the bubble wrap!

Do you have any tips to share with the readers?
Don’t be afraid to explore what seems like a simple technique and being it to the next step

Project Specifications:

  • YouTube Video: N/A
  • Colors/brands of paint.
Because it is so difficult to maintain patterns on Glass, I prefer to custom blend my paints for better outcomes. Absolutely love Liquitex, Amsterdam, Pebeo & DecoArt brands.
  • Paint Pouring technique(s) used. I used a combination of techniques and some Stacy.Does.Glass Advanced Technique applications !
  • Canvas (or substrate) size. Glass.

About the Project

What inspired the techniques used in your piece?
The piece that I choose to work with is always the inspiration behind how I will approach it. I guess you could say that the Glass “speaks to me” !

What challenges did you have completing this piece?
I used my newly developed S.D.G. Diamond Glaze on this entire piece for the very first time. It was very labor intensive to get the coverage that I needed & took me nearly 10 hours !

Do you have a favorite part or element in this artwork?
The Glitter effect of course !
I have always loved & was the first to pioneer getting Micas on Glass but the Glitter is like Micas on steroids !! So beautiful & the sparkle is insane !

Are there any specific tools or materials that you found particularly helpful in this project?
Very important to use the right type of Glitter when applying it to Glass. If it’s too fine it won’t sparkle & if it’s too chunky it won’t adhere.

Do you have any tips to share with the readers?
There is so much experimentation, trial & error that goes into pouring over Glass. There is no “one size fits all” as far as techniques or applications. The surfaces of the Glass dictate so much ! It’s like pouring for the first time with every piece !

  • Paint Pouring technique(s) used. Bloom Paint Pouring
  • Canvas (or substrate) size. 8″ ceramic tile

About the Project

What inspired the techniques used in your piece?
The theme of this collaboration inspired me to work on my Bloom technique but on tile.

What challenges did you have completing this piece?
II thought that working with ceramic tiles would be a challenge because I have only painted on them once or twice before. It was much easier than I thought and I was worrying myself for no reason, lol!

Do you have a favorite part or element in this artwork?
I LOVE how the Phthalo Green blended with the white paint. The shadows it created are stunning.

Are there any specific tools or materials that you found particularly helpful in this project?
My new-ish spinner! It spins so smooth and I feel like I can control the spin easier than my previous spinner.

Do you have any tips to share with the readers?
Have fun with the process! If it doesn’t work out, keep going and alter if needed.

  • Paint Pouring technique(s) used. Deconstructed Bloom
  • Canvas (or substrate) size. 6” wooden mushrooms (2)

About the Project

What inspired the techniques used in your piece?
Nature and the sixties and the fact I found these wooden mushrooms at Dollar Tree for $1.25 each. I had a vision of some sixties style funkadelic mushrooms caps using the bloom technique.

What challenges did you have completing this piece?
The only challenge was time. Funding the time to do it. Between YouTube collaborations, vendor markets, local exhibitions, and more my first workshop, I’ve been very busy. So it’s a good thing.

Do you have a favorite part or element in this artwork?
I love both of them. They turned out perfectly. I love the swirly dos and curly ques that I added. The flow they give draws you into them.

Are there any specific tools or materials that you found particularly helpful in this project?
My air brush. I love the control it gives me and without it, I wouldn’t be able to do blooms.

Do you have any tips to share with the readers?
Try different things, different colors, different techniques, on different materials. You never know where it will take you. Enjoy the ride along the way.
