Can you tell us a bit about your background as an artist? How did you first get started with paint pouring?

I started painting five years ago as a way to help me in my recovery from addiction. It was therapy for me.

The peace I found while painting was a gift from God, and by His Grace, I’ve been sober for almost six years.

What draws you to the medium of paint pouring? What do you enjoy most about it?

I love each piece’s uniqueness. Learning how to manipulate the paint to achieve the look I want is so satisfying.

Describe your creative process when approaching a new paint pouring project. Do you plan your compositions in advance, or do you prefer to let the process guide you?

Sometimes, I plan, but I mostly just let go and let the paint move me.

Do you frequently use specific techniques or methods in your paint pouring work? Could you walk us through one of your favorite techniques?

I’ve tried many techniques, and you would think my favorite would be the bloom because I create a lot with it, but honestly, my favorite is the reverse dip. The depth that can be created with that technique is mind-blowing.

Abstract fluid art painting by Nichole Manuel featuring layered petal-like formations in shades of black, white, silver, and soft gray. Intricate lacing and cellular details radiate outward from a swirling center, creating the appearance of a blooming flower with dramatic contrast and delicate movement. The monochromatic color palette gives the artwork an elegant, sophisticated feel while highlighting the fine details throughout the composition.

What inspires your artistic style and choice of colors? Do any particular themes or motifs recur in your work?

I get inspiration from nature and from many amazing artists I’ve met on this journey. As for color, I just like to experiment and figure out what works and what doesn’t. Some of my favorite pieces came from colors you wouldn’t think went together.

Can you share a memorable experience or a significant breakthrough moment you’ve had in your paint pouring journey?

The most memorable experience was holding an auction to raise money for an organization that helps human trafficking victims. The auction raised $1000, and I realized I could help others with what I created. It was such a blessing.

How do you overcome creative blocks or challenges when working on a project?

I don’t really get blocks but I have had days where the paint just doesn’t move the way I want it too.

I try not to stress too much about it. If I make it too much like work that takes the fun out of it.

Do you have any favorite tools or materials that you always keep in your paint pouring arsenal? What are they, and why do you love them?

My favorite tools are my variety of pallet knives for swiping and as for materials…pigments. I love the shimmer and sparkle they have.. My favorites are eyecandy and tlp.

How do you know when a paint pouring piece is finished? What criteria do you use to evaluate your work?

If I can look at it and say,” I’d hang that in my home,” then it’s finished.

What advice would you give to aspiring paint pouring artists who are just starting out?

YouTube is your friend. Paint consistency is key.

Don’t let your mistakes discourage you; we all make many at the beginning. Most importantly, have fun and enjoy the experience.

Are there any upcoming projects, exhibitions, or collaborations you’re excited about and would like to share with our readers?

I will be doing another auction in the coming months. I haven’t chosen a date yet.
