Can you tell us a bit about your background as an artist? How did you first get started with paint pouring?
A few years ago I came across another beautiful artist who inspired me to learn more about paint pouring!
I watched countless hours of videos and tutorials from a lot of different artists. After more than a year and a half of learning, I decided in July of 2023, to let my creativity flow. And I haven’t stopped yet!
What draws you to the medium of paint pouring? What do you enjoy most about it?
What draws me to this form of art, is that I can complete a project in a short amount of time. Meaning, I have severe carpal tunnel.
I’m not able to crochet, rug loom, bake, bread making, gardening, or many other tasks that require a lot of hand strength. Which I love to do!!
With fluid art, I’m able to work the paints and the canvas just enough that my hands cooperate. This is a creative outlet I can achieve and have a true passion for.
Describe your creative process when approaching a new paint pouring project. Do you plan your compositions in advance, or do you prefer to let the process guide you?

Oh geez!! This is a hard question! My Answer would have to be…I plan and then it goes the way it goes!! That’s the magic behind paint pouring, fluid art!!
Do you frequently use specific techniques or methods in your paint pouring work? Could you walk us through one of your favorite techniques?
Okay, now the questions are getting harder!
I typically do Sheleeart Blooms. Why? They seem to be the easiest for me to do.
I start with a pillow paint, (house paint) on my canvas. I like to use at least 4-5 different color choices. When mixing my powders or tube paints I like to have a consistency of 3-4 second trace. I will layer the paints in a manner that works best. I make sure they won’t get muddy in color or disappear altogether.
Then I add the magic, The cell activator, on top of my colors. You would then blow out your composition. The blow is my weakness. It has to be just right. Too much: splatter, too little: you don’t move the paints. It’s very much a learning curve. The last step is spinning the canvas to stretch out the paint until it no longer moves in the middle. It’s beautiful to watch what you have just created, spin out. It’s magic!!

What inspires your artistic style and choice of colors? Do any particular themes or motifs recur in your work?
Yes…
I seem to lean towards earth colors with pops of blues!
So I guess you could say that nature inspires my art!!
I’ve been working on more simplistic art lately. It calms the mind from chaos.
Can you share a memorable experience or a significant breakthrough moment you’ve had in your paint pouring journey?
I had to ask my husband this question. My brain froze.
He reminded me of one of my favorite pieces. My second swipe! It turned out so beautiful! It looks like wood but with a lot more sparkle. Simple colors of black, gold, bronze, and white. He will never let me part with that one!
That piece made me realize that I really loved fluid art! There are so many different techniques in this art form, you just fall into one that is you!
How do you overcome creative blocks or challenges when working on a project?
I’m still waiting!
I purchased a circular canvas months ago, like eight! I’ve been blocked on what to do with it. Bloom, swipe, simplicity, or a cloud pour? I have no clue!
I just move on to other projects until that day it clicks!
Do you have any favorite tools or materials that you always keep in your paint pouring arsenal? What are they, and why do you love them?
Paper towels!!
Because paint happens!!
Since I’m newer at fluid art or paint pouring, I really haven’t ventured outside of doing Blooms. They really don’t require too many tools.
Oh!! My cake spinner!! Love my cake spinner! It’s a very inexpensive one off Amazon, but I love how it spins!

How do you know when a paint pouring piece is finished? What criteria do you use to evaluate your work?
When the paint stops moving.
Since Blooms are what I normally create, that’s pretty much how I determine if it’s finished. And if I’m not happy with the outcome, scraping comes in handy!
What advice would you give to aspiring paint pouring artists who are just starting out?
Read! Watch videos! Ask questions!!!
Don’t be afraid to try, but learn how paints work! That was the key thing for me. Have an understanding of color theory but don’t limit yourself to that. Step outside the box and experiment. That’s how we learn! Through trial and error. There is a lot of science behind the paints which is fun to learn. But also very important to know!

Are there any upcoming projects, exhibitions, or collaborations you’re excited about and would like to share with our readers?
In all honesty, I haven’t ventured outside of my personal bubble. Some day I’m hoping to move in a direction when I’m collaborating with other artists and showing my art!
Lastly, where can we find more of your work or connect with you online?
I am on Facebook, Paint in Motion with Fluid Art, and on Instagram.
