Can you tell us a bit about your background as an artist? How did you first get started with paint pouring?

I got serious about my art in 2021. I needed a release of my creativity due to being stuck in my home during the COVID pandemic.

What draws you to the medium of paint pouring? What do you enjoy most about it?

I enjoy the ability to create that which is just unimaginable. I love that there are always new and exciting techniques being created daily and it seems it just go on and on.

Describe your creative process when approaching a new paint pouring project. Do you plan your compositions in advance, or do you prefer to let the process guide you?

If the project is a commission I do prefer a step by step guide as you might say to get the task completed; however, when I am just painting to paint and I am experimenting I just give in to the moment and whatever comes, comes!! 🙂

Are there any specific techniques or methods that you frequently use in your paint pouring work? Could you walk us through one of your favorite techniques?

I would have to say my favorite as of today would be the modified bloom technique. This technique involves a small bit of planning.

I use house paint for my pillow and then add colors that I have mixed from pigment or paint form to varnish and untinted house paint. I then add a cell activator on top of that, which is mixed with another paint and additive called Australian Floetrol.

I then place the paints where I want them, spin some to expand the design, and take a tool and pull designs through the original design, which is called modifying. It is a tedious process but so rewarding in the end.

What inspires your artistic style and choice of colors? Are there any particular themes or motifs that recur in your work?

I love purple!! I think I use it way too much, but aren’t we all drawn to something familiar. I think what mostly stands out or occurs over and over are the swirls I do with the tools I use. I just can’t stop!! 🙂

Can you share a memorable experience or a significant breakthrough moment you’ve had in your paint pouring journey?

I would have to say it was when I decided to take my painting seriously enough to share it with the world on social media.

I realized that I needed to break out and be seen by others and be encouraged to continue, and in a sense, I, too, am helping them as well by being the smiling face they tend to visit from time to time when they need a friend – with that visit they also get to paint with me!! 🙂

How do you overcome creative blocks or challenges when working on a project?

I usually busy myself with other things and take a step away for a while sometimes it doesn’t take long, and other times it can be days or even weeks before you jump over that hurdle.

Do you have any favorite tools or materials that you always keep in your paint pouring arsenal? What are they, and why do you love them?

I love my silicone dotting tool, my world’s smallest blower, and my silicone spoons. I bought the blower from Amazon, and I have one on back-up as well when the one I am using finally dies. I love using it because it blows just the right amount of air on most of my projects that I need. I won’t leave home without it. I love dotting tools and the spoons because they are so easy to use and they don’t have to be washed immediately. I can leave them and then just peel the paint off when it dries and use them again. I buy them from the Dollar Tree.

How do you know when a paint pouring piece is finished? What criteria do you use to evaluate your work?

That’s a funny question because I am the world’s worst at continuing to fiddle with a project. I literally would never stop if I didn’t have to.

If I am satisfied with what is in front of me, I know I will elicit a reaction from someone else and isn’t that what art is supposed to do?

What advice would you give to aspiring paint pouring artists who are just starting out?

Don’t give up on your journey. Reach out to other artists and become involved in the community. Go out and talk to people about your art. Never miss an opportunity to talk about what you do. Visit your local art centers and galleries because it’s not so hard to spur up a conversation about showing your work if they are interested.

Are there any upcoming projects, exhibitions, or collaborations that you’re excited about and would like to share with our readers?

My schedule is booked this year. I am showing my art at some festivals in my home state of TN this year. This reminds me that I need to create a public calendar on my website (Noted on the to-do list) 😉  I am working on a huge project video about why fluid art is “ART” with some fabulous artist’s from around the world. Stay on the lookout for that video on my channel. And, I will be a TA for Kanella Ciraco at Fluid Art Experience in Asheville, TN from 5/23 through 5/26. If you see me please come up and say Hi!! 🙂
